Aloft

adverbStandard termMaritime

Up in the rigging, masts, or upper works of a vessel.

Any position above the main deck, specifically in the masts, yards, or standing rigging. Working aloft requires safety harnesses and specialized training, as crew members must climb the shrouds to perform maintenance on antennas, lights, or sails while exposed to the ship's rolling motion.
