Head-on collision

nounStandard termLogistics

A crash in which the front ends of two vehicles traveling in opposite directions strike each other.

A head-on collision is the most lethal type of traffic accident due to the combined closing speed of both vehicles. In traffic engineering, roads are designed to minimize these events by installing median barriers, rumble strips, and clear signage. They most frequently occur on rural two-lane highways when drivers attempt unsafe passes or drift across the centerline.
