A phrase from rock and concert lighting describing showy, high-energy looks built from strobes, color chases, ballyhoos and bumps rather than carefully sculpted states. Designers use it affectionately for big rock moments and dismissively for shows that rely on effects instead of design. It also shows up as a deliberate style at clubs, festivals and sports presentations.
Verse can stay subtle, but the last chorus is pure flash and trash, strobes and every mover on full.
