A tree whose crown rises entirely above the general level of the forest canopy.

Describing a tree that has grown significantly taller than the surrounding overstory, exposing its entire crown to full sunlight from above and the sides. These trees often have massive, spreading branches because they lack lateral competition. While they grow rapidly, their timber is sometimes of lower quality due to heavy branching and taper.
