Camp

nounShop talkFarming

A regional term for a mound of earth and straw used to store root crops outdoors.

An outdoor storage structure made by piling harvested root vegetables, like potatoes or turnips, on the ground and covering them with thick layers of straw and soil. The earth insulates the crop against winter frosts while allowing enough ventilation to prevent rot. It is an older, regional variant of the term clamp.
