Beetle bank

nounStandard termFarming

A raised strip of permanent grasses planted across a field to house predatory insects.

An elevated, uncultivated earth ridge running through an arable field, sown with native bunch grasses and perennials. It serves as an overwintering habitat for ground beetles, spiders, and other predatory invertebrates that will migrate into the adjacent crop rows in spring to eat aphids and pests.
