Bee vacuum

nounStandard termFarming

A specialized low-suction machine used to safely capture honeybee swarms.

A modified vacuum system designed to suck up swarming or established honeybees without crushing them. It typically features adjustable suction and a catch box lined with soft material or frames, allowing a beekeeper to extract colonies from wall cavities or high branches safely.

Heard on the job

The swarm is deep inside the soffit, so I'll need to run the bee vacuum to pull them out before removing the comb.

Insider tip

Always dial the suction down to the absolute minimum needed to lift the bees; too much power will kill the entire catch.
