HDL stands for hardware description language, a text-based code used to model, simulate, and synthesize digital logic. Unlike software languages that execute sequentially, an HDL describes parallel hardware architectures, allowing engineers to define everything from simple flip-flops to complex microprocessors. The code is ultimately synthesized into a netlist for manufacturing an ASIC or programming an FPGA.
We need to rewrite the memory controller in HDL so we can simulate the timing closures before tape-out.
