Yellow 77

nounShop talkElectricians

Wire-pulling lubricant named for a familiar yellow brand, smeared on conductors to cut friction in conduit.

Yellow 77 is a wire-pulling lubricant made by Ideal, and its name stands on site for any pulling compound: a water-based gel or wax smeared onto conductors at the pull point and pumped into the conduit to reduce friction and tension. It lets long feeders and multi-bend runs come through without stripping insulation. The lube has to be compatible with the cable jacket, and Polywater is the other name crews reach for.
