Noalox is the brand name crews use for any oxide-inhibiting joint compound, a grease loaded with zinc or other particles that is applied to stripped aluminium conductors and connections. It cuts through and keeps out aluminium oxide, which otherwise raises contact resistance and leads to hot, failing terminations. It is standard on aluminium service and feeder conductors, often called for by the lug maker, and rival brands include Penetrox, Ox-Gard and De-Ox.
