Sidewalk superintendent

nounShop talkBuilding

A bystander who loiters near a construction site to watch the work and offer unsolicited advice.

A sidewalk superintendent is a nosy pedestrian or local resident who spends their time observing a building project from the perimeter fence. They often consider themselves experts and will try to catch the attention of the crew to critique the work, point out perceived flaws, or ask endless questions. Site managers generally view them as a harmless but annoying distraction.

Heard on the job

Tell the sidewalk superintendent by the chainlink fence that we don't need his opinion on how to pour this footing.
