Track

nounStandard termAutomotive

The lateral distance between the centerlines of the two wheels on the same axle.

The lateral measurement across an axle from the center of one tire's contact patch to the center of the opposite tire's contact patch. A wider track improves lateral stability and reduces body roll during cornering. Track width can be altered by installing wheels with a different offset or by adding wheel spacers.

Heard on the job

Adding those deep-dish wheels widened the front track by nearly two inches, so we need to check fender clearance.
