South African slang for a light pickup truck or utility vehicle.

A bakkie is a light commercial vehicle with an enclosed cab and an open cargo bed at the rear. Used primarily in South Africa, the term covers everything from small unibody car-based pickups to rugged body-on-frame 4x4 trucks. They are frequently fitted with fiberglass or aluminum canopies over the bed to secure cargo.
