Berline

nounStandard termAutomotive

A traditional automotive body style equivalent to a sedan or saloon.

A berline is a fixed-roof passenger car with a separate engine compartment, passenger cabin, and trunk. While the term is largely historic in English-speaking markets, it remains the standard technical designation for a sedan in French automotive engineering and appears frequently in imported service manuals or European parts catalogs.

Heard on the job

The parts catalog lists entirely different rear suspension components for the berline and the estate.
