Bottle
Bottle turns up in 2 fields: welding, printing. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
Bottle in welding
Shop word for a high-pressure gas cylinder of shielding gas, oxygen or fuel gas.
Everyday name for compressed gas cylinders: argon, 75/25 and CO2 for shielding, oxygen and acetylene or propane for torch work. Bottles are chained upright, capped when moved, and stored with oxygen separated from fuel gas. Acetylene is used upright only, and its draw is limited, commonly to about one-seventh of the contents per hour, or acetone is pulled out with the gas.
"Argon bottle's on fumes, swap it before you start that root, and chain the new one up."
Bottle in printing
To skew or twist out of square during the folding of a multi-page signature.
To skew or rotate slightly during the folding process of a large printed sheet. When multiple pages are imposed on a single sheet, repeated thick folds can force the inner pages to twist out of alignment, causing the text blocks to tilt relative to the trimmed page edges.
"The inner spreads started to bottle on the last fold, so we had to adjust the imposition to compensate."
