A traditional T-shaped hand tool used for chopping out mortises in timber.

A specialized double-ended cutting tool featuring a flat chisel on one end and a hook or mortise chisel on the other, set perpendicular to the handle. It is swung to chop and lever out waste wood when cutting deep mortises, particularly in hurdle making and traditional timber framing.
