attolitre

unitStandard termUnits

A metric unit of volume equal to one quintillionth of a litre.

The attolitre represents 10⁻¹⁸ litres, a volume so small it is typically used to measure the contents of individual biological cells or nanoscale droplets. In microfluidics and nanotechnology, it helps researchers quantify fluid flow and chemical concentrations at the molecular level. A single attolitre is equivalent to a cubic tenth of a micrometre.

We dispensed the reagent in 500-attolitre droplets to ensure single-cell encapsulation.
