LT

abbreviationStandard termTextiles

Left twist, a knitting stitch that crosses one stitch over another leaning to the left.

Left twist is a mini-cable technique worked over two stitches without using a cable needle. The knitter works the second stitch on the left needle through the back loop, then knits the first stitch normally, slipping both off together. This creates a tight, diagonal line leaning left, often used in traveling stitch patterns or mock cables.

Heard on the job

The pattern calls for an LT followed by two purls to create the twisted ribbing effect.

  • RT: LT crosses the stitches so the top strand leans left, while RT crosses them to lean right.
