Wabun code

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

A telegraphy code used to transmit Japanese kana characters.

Wabun code is a specialized form of Morse code designed to represent Japanese syllables rather than the Latin alphabet. Each kana character is mapped to a unique sequence of dots and dashes. Radio operators switch between standard Morse and Wabun using specific prosigns to indicate the character set change.

Heard on the job
