Zepp antenna

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

A wire antenna fed at one end by a two-wire parallel transmission line.

The Zepp antenna is an end-fed half-wave wire radiator paired with a quarter-wave balanced transmission line matching section. Originally trailed behind Zeppelin airships, this design allows the high impedance of the end-fed wire to be matched to a standard transmitter output. It remains popular in amateur radio because it requires only one elevated support point.

Heard on the job

We strung a Zepp antenna from the shack up to the oak tree to get on the 80-meter band.
