This early communication method sends unmodulated continuous wave radio signals to transmit text information, typically via Morse code. Operators key a transmitter on and off to form dots and dashes, which a distant receiver picks up as audio tones. It formed the foundation of maritime and military radio communications before the advent of voice transmission.
