Ring cadence is the defined pattern of on and off cycles for the ringing signal sent to a telephone. In North America, the standard cadence is two seconds of ringing followed by four seconds of silence. PBX administrators often configure custom ring cadences to help users distinguish between internal calls, external calls, and priority alerts just by listening to the timing of the rings.
