An optical disc drive equipped with a specific laser assembly tuned to the 405-nanometer wavelength required for Blu-ray media. These drives spin the disc at high speeds while tracking the microscopic data spiral, decoding the reflections into a bitstream. They are backward-compatible with older optical formats by including secondary lasers in the optical pickup head.
The workstation needs a Blu-ray drive if they expect us to ingest these archival video masters.
