Cutline

nounShop talkSurveying

A narrow path cleared through brush and timber to allow a clear line of sight for surveying instruments.

Survey crews hack away branches, bushes, and small trees to create a physical corridor through dense vegetation. This unobstructed path allows the total station or level to see the target or prism rod. Creating these paths is labor-intensive but necessary for running traverses through thick woods where GPS signals are blocked by the canopy.
