Drillable

adjectiveStandard termRobotics

A characteristic of a robotic manipulator capable of orienting its end effector freely around a single point.

A manipulator is considered drillable if its kinematics allow the end effector to maintain a fixed position in space while changing its orientation. This property is essential for tasks like drilling, welding, or inserting fasteners, where the tool tip must stay on target while the arm bends to avoid collisions or reach the correct approach angle.

Heard on the job

Make sure the new welding cell uses a fully drillable arm so we can hit the inside corners without moving the part.
