A type of track switch mechanism that allows a train to pass through in the trailing direction even if the points are set against it. As the wheel flanges push against the points, a spring or hydraulic mechanism yields, letting the train pass without derailing or destroying the switch stand. After the wheels clear, the points either snap back to their original position or remain in the new alignment, depending on the design.
