Pacer

nounShop talkRailroad

A historic British lightweight diesel multiple unit built using bus body parts mounted on a freight wagon frame.

A British railway term for a series of cheap, lightweight diesel railbuses built to save money on rural routes. They were essentially bus bodies bolted onto a rigid four-wheel freight chassis. Known for an incredibly rough ride and loud squealing on curves, they became a notorious symbol of underfunded regional transit.
