nounStandard termRailroad

A raised platform beside a track used to move freight directly into railcars.

An elevated earth or concrete structure built alongside a siding to bring the ground level flush with the floors of boxcars and flatcars. This traditional facility allows forklifts, wagons, or livestock to move straight into the rail equipment without lifting.
