Geep

nounShop talkRailroad

A nickname for any of the General Purpose series of four-axle road switchers built by EMD.

A colloquial name for the Electro-Motive Division GP series of diesel-electric locomotives. Starting with the GP7, these versatile four-axle units were designed for both mainline freight and yard switching duties. Crews still use the term for any older, four-axle EMD unit assigned to local runs or yard work.
