A single large sheet of paper printed with multiple pages on both sides, which is then folded down into a booklet-like section. Multiple signatures are gathered and bound together to create a complete book. They usually consist of 8, 16, or 32 pages. The term originally referred to the small reference letter or number printed at the bottom of the first page to guide the binder.
