Paper jam

nounStandard termPrinting

A mechanical fault where sheets of paper become stuck inside the feed mechanism of a printing device.

When a sheet misfeeds, tears, or crumples inside a printer, photocopier, or press, it blocks the paper path and halts production. This usually triggers a sensor fault that requires an operator to manually open the machine, clear the torn scraps, and reset the feed rollers. Jams are frequently caused by improper paper loading, high humidity affecting the paper, or worn separation rollers.

Heard on the job

We got a paper jam in the duplexer again, probably because this cheap stock is curling too much from the heat.
