Mist

verbStandard termPrinting

To spray fine droplets of ink into the air from rapidly spinning press rollers.

The tendency of printing ink to shear and break into airborne droplets as it transfers between fast-moving rollers in the ink train. This creates a fine aerosol that coats the pressroom and can contaminate the printed sheets. Operators control it by adjusting ink tack, reducing roller speeds, or installing extraction hoods.
