Engraving is an intaglio printing method that uses a sharp tool called a burin to cut lines directly into a copper or steel plate. Ink is forced into these incised lines, and the surface is wiped clean. When run through a high-pressure press, the paper is forced into the grooves to pick up the ink, resulting in a print with slightly raised, tactile lines.
You can feel the raised ink on this wedding invitation, which proves it's a genuine engraving.
