64mo

nounStandard termPrinting

An extremely small book format made by folding a printed sheet into sixty-four leaves.

This format generates 128 pages from a single parent sheet, creating a miniature volume that often measures less than three inches tall. Folding a sheet six times creates massive bulk at the spine, so printers usually cut the sheet into smaller sections before the final folds. It is highly specialized, used almost exclusively for collector miniatures and tiny novelty books.

Heard on the job

We had to slit the sheets on press because folding a true 64mo signature would split the paper at the gussets.
