British Standard Pipe is a family of standard screw thread types used globally for interconnecting and sealing pipes and fittings. It comes in two main variants: BSPT (tapered), which provides a pressure-tight seal on the threads, and BSPP (parallel), which requires a bonded seal or washer. It is the standard thread in most of the world outside of North America.
Heard on the job
You can't thread that fitting onto this pipe, the pump has a BSP connection and you're holding an NPT adapter.

Do not mix it up with
- IPT: BSP is the British/international standard, while IPT (Iron Pipe Thread) or NPT is the North American standard, and their thread pitches do not match.
