Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene is a tough, impact-resistant plastic polymer used to manufacture black plumbing pipes and fittings. It is joined using a single-step solvent cement, unlike PVC which requires a separate purple primer. ABS is primarily used for non-pressure drain, waste, and vent applications in residential construction.

Insider tip
Because ABS degrades under prolonged exposure to sunlight, it should not be stored outdoors without a UV-resistant coating or tarp.
