Hand is judged by trained panels stroking and crumpling samples, and by instruments that measure bending resistance, surface friction and compression. For hygiene topsheets and wipes it is often the property that wins or loses business. Fiber fineness, bond area, binder level and finish all move it, and European speakers usually call it handle.
Hand on the new topsheet is close, but the panel says it's slightly papery next to the target.
Keep reference samples on the table during hand panels; without them, scores drift from one session to the next.
