A flat steel or iron plate laid on the floor of an intersection or tight corner in a mine. It allows workers to manually pivot mine cars or tubs without needing curved track sections. By pushing the cart off the rails onto the greased or smooth plate, a single miner can rotate the heavy load and align it with a different set of rails.
