Operator

nounStandard termMining

The company or entity responsible for the daily management and working of a mine or oilfield.

The primary corporate entity that holds the permits, hires the workforce, and runs the physical extraction activities at a site. In joint ventures, multiple companies might own a percentage of the mineral rights, but only one acts as the operator making the day-to-day technical decisions.
