Aluminium bronze

nounStandard termMetallurgy

A family of copper-based alloys containing a significant percentage of aluminium.

Aluminium bronze is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy consisting primarily of copper with 5 to 14 percent aluminium added as the main alloying element. The aluminium forms a thin, tough surface layer of alumina that protects the metal from oxidation and marine corrosion. It is widely used for ship propellers, pump components, and heavy-duty bearings.
