The widest and most central structural rib of a ship's hull.

The primary transverse structural member located at the widest part of a ship's hull, usually near the midship section. Shipwrights use this central rib as the primary reference point for establishing the vessel's maximum beam and shaping the curvature of the remaining frames fore and aft.
