Blow

verbStandard termMaritime

To force water out of a submarine's ballast tanks using high-pressure air.

To inject high-pressure compressed air into the main ballast tanks of a submarine, displacing the seawater inside and venting it out the bottom. This rapid reduction in mass increases the vessel's positive buoyancy, causing it to ascend to the surface. An emergency blow uses maximum air pressure to surface the boat as quickly as possible during a crisis.
