Andon

nounStandard termProduction

A visual signaling system used on the factory floor to indicate a problem.

A visual or audible alert system that allows operators to stop the production line when they detect a defect or equipment malfunction. Originating from the Toyota Production System, it usually involves a pull cord or button that turns on a specific colored light on an overhead board. This immediately summons a supervisor or maintenance technician to resolve the root cause.
