A period when a machine or production line is halted and unable to produce goods.

The total time a manufacturing asset is out of operation. It is categorized as planned, such as scheduled maintenance and changeovers, or unplanned, such as equipment breakdowns or material shortages. Reducing unplanned stoppages is a primary metric for overall equipment effectiveness.
