FX

nounShop talkLogistics

A shared utility vehicle or taxi operating on fixed public transit routes, particularly in the Philippines.

An FX is a type of shared public utility vehicle operating on fixed routes, named after the Toyota Tamaraw FX which originally dominated this service in the Philippines. These vehicles bridge the gap between traditional jeepneys and buses, offering air-conditioned transit for up to ten passengers. Even as newer vehicle models have taken over the routes, commuters still colloquially refer to the service as an FX.

Heard on the job

I'll just catch an FX at the terminal instead of waiting for the bus in this heat.

Insider tip

While officially regulated as UV Express by transit authorities, the legacy name FX remains the most common term used by commuters hailing these rides.
