Photometeor

nounStandard termLighting

A visible atmospheric phenomenon caused by the reflection, refraction, diffraction, or interference of light.

An optical event in the atmosphere created when sunlight or moonlight interacts with suspended particles like water droplets, ice crystals, or dust. Halos, rainbows, coronas, and glories are all photometeors. Optical scientists study these phenomena to understand atmospheric scattering and to replicate complex volumetric light effects in simulation and rendering.
