A tiny, fluid-filled microvacuole that forms within the polymer matrix of a lens. These defects have a different refractive index than the surrounding lens material, causing them to scatter incoming light. In precision optics, severe glistenings reduce contrast, increase glare, and degrade overall image quality.
Heard on the job
We had to reject the acrylic batch because thermal cycling caused severe glistening throughout the optical blanks.
