This tightly folded or coiled bundle of lightweight fire hose is rigged with shoulder straps for transport over rough terrain. Wildland crews carry them to rapidly extend water lines up steep hills or deep into the brush where vehicles cannot go. A standard pack usually contains two or three hundred-foot lengths of inch-and-a-half hose, often with a nozzle attached.
