Fog out

verbShop talkFire & Safety

To use a wide fog stream from a hose line to push smoke and heat out of a window.

A hydraulic ventilation technique where a firefighter directs a wide fog pattern out of an exterior window or door from inside the structure. The expanding water droplets create a low-pressure area behind the nozzle, drawing dense smoke and heat out of the room and improving visibility for the interior crew.

Heard on the job

Once we knock down the main body of fire, we'll fog out the room and start overhaul.
