Bresnan nozzle

nounStandard termFire & Safety

A rotating distributor nozzle lowered through holes to fight fires in confined spaces.

A Bresnan nozzle is a specialized, spherical brass distributor nozzle with multiple angled outlets that spin the device when pressurized. Firefighters lower it through a hole cut in a floor or roof to attack fires in cellars, attics, or void spaces where personnel cannot safely enter. The spinning action throws a heavy, circular pattern of water that bounces off walls and ceilings to extinguish hidden fire.
